Cravings on A low Carb High Fat Diet

One of the biggest concerns that I had was dealing with the cravings on a low carb high fat diet. You see on past diets I always had cravings for the things I couldn’t have and I would end up quitting the diet or sabotaging my results.

The thing I really love about eating a high-fat diet is that I am so incredibly Weight satisfied. I virtually don’t have any cravings for sweets, which is very surprising. And I find that after my meals I am full longer. Often I am able to totally skip lunch entirely. I’m simply not hungry.

And I’m so satisfied with the flavor of the food I eat. It wholesale mlb jerseys is almost as if food tastes different to me. For example, I never realized how sweet a mushroom was. When you eliminate the sugar and carbs in what you eat, you actually get to taste what real food tastes like and it is wonderful!

I will tell you, however the first two days were really difficult as I actually went through a bit of a withdrawal. Sort of like an alcoholic going off alcohol. It really took commitment to stick with this.

I felt very irritable cheap nba jerseys and had a headache. I also sort of felt like I had the flu or was coming down with something. I was Saturday just really out of sorts and not feeling well. I didn’t feel hungry, but I really wanted sugar. I wanted it real bad.

I found that if I ate something that had fat in it (like celery with creme cheese), those cravings would go OMAET away. So I would add extra cream Support or butter to my coffee. Or I would make myself some bacon or eat a small piece of cheese. These all helped my cravings.

But once I got past those first few days It was really easy to stick with this way of eating. I really don’t miss the sugar at all. This was something that really surprised me.

Now that I’ve been doing this for a few weeks, the cravings are gone. 🙂

PS.

I wanted to share with you something that I learned about cravings. The reason the cravings go away is because when you are eating sugar, your body will crave more cheap nfl jerseys sugar. It is Diet actually almost like an addiction. This is why people who eat carbs want to snack all the time.

But when you are off sugar with a low carb, high-fat diet the cravings will eventually go away.

If you are having cravings (after the first 2 weeks) then it is probably a good idea To to think about what you ate and check labels. For example, cheap nba jerseys I was going to have a slice of Lebanon bologna until I saw that it had 5 grams of sugar. Thank goodness I didn’t eat any.

Anyway, hopefully, this will give you a bit Harracheg more insight on cravings where a low carb high fat diet is concerned.

  1. Hi,

What a great post. I have been looking at ways to cut down on my sweets.

After watching few Dr. Oz episodes, I had really identified that I have a sugar addiction! 🙁 Even my skin breaks out when I have too much of it.

I’m having a really hard time to cut it out completely, do you have any tricks that can help me?

    1. What worked for me was to stop all sugar completely. I don’t even use artificial sweeteners. It is only difficult for the first day or two. After that it is much easier. The trick is to eat more fat. Fat will fill you up and level out your insulin. This will prevent cravings and you will probably be able to go longer without eating. I find that I don’t have a desire to snack in between meals or in the evenings. I realize now, that when I was eating carbs, I was eating just to eat or just because I had food cravings. Now, I simply eat when I’m hungry.

  2. Hi Wendy,
I guess I should revisit the high fat low carb diet. I’m on WW now and I get crazy carb cravings (and I haven’t lost much weight…mostly because I give in to the carb cravings!). I mean, I go for the good stuff. Bread, crackers, pasta, and sugary treats. With every good step I take forwards, I also take two steps back. I’d do anything for a few points in the “win” category to drop even 5 pounds. Are there some guidelines I can read for your low carb high fat diet?
    Thanks.
    Alyssa

  3. Great post , I have to say I’m addicted to sugar when I have my coffee I like 10 cream and 10 sugar. That not a lot really? But I guess I have to really watch my sugar intake after reading your blog post. Bologna is one of my favorite but I didn’t pay much attention to the sugar. 1. I am so glad you found it helpful. Sugar is very addictive. Believe it or not, sugar is even more addictive than cocaine. Even a small gradual change would be helpful Anthony. But for me, I found cold turkey (although the first two days was difficult) was what worked for me. Now I rarely ever get cravings. But the above tips help a lot. Take Care!

    1. I understand there are many people that eat a lot of sugar. And if you are adding milk or half and half rather than real cream that is even more sugar. Your body may be able to handle it. Mine can’t. When I have to much sugar, I find that I get headaches, have joint pain and the worst side effect is that I get fat. The important thing to remember, Anthony is that sugar is what makes you fat not fat. If you find that you are over weight, have diabetes or other health problems then you should consider dropping the sugar.

Thank you so much for the comment and the support with my new blog here. :

  5. It makes a lot of sense that when you eat sugar, the cravings want you to eat more sugar.

I do find eating proper, and natural fat in the diet does help with you having no cravings.

Do you find there is a certain level of fat you can eat before causing problems with gaining extra weight?

    1. I have been only seeing weight loss so far. I think you may get to a point where you will not longer lose (because you wont need to) and your weight will stay the same. Your body will tell you when you are full.

  6. Wendy,

This is an interesting article and confirms what I’ve read elsewhere.

I agree that a high fat, low carbs diet is a game changer when it comes to weight control. I made a concerted effort to cut way back on carbs when I hit age 50 several years ago (and found the jeans were getting quite snug). It is really amazing how just cutting out bread lets you shed those pounds.

I’ve never had a huge sweet tooth but it’s remarkable how much the cravings go away once you cut them out of your diet. I now only allow myself to “cheat” on special occasions. Great article and thanks!

    1. Yes, the cravings go away when you cut the sugar. Sugar is very addictive and makes you just want more and more. Thanks so much for your input, Lynn.
