Carb Blockers – Do they Work on Keto?

When it comes to losing weight and getting healthy, the best thing to do is follow a low carb, high-fat diet (also known as Keto). However, because Low Carb is a lifestyle, there will be those rare times that you will want to have a high starch meal or have a cheat day. I mean are you going to go the rest of your life and never have a piece of cake or even a potato? This is where Carb Blockers can be helpful.

What are Carb Blockers?

Carb Blockers are a natural supplement that is made of white kidney bean extract. If taken before a high starch meal or alcohol, white kidney bean extract helps to absorb the starches and prevents those starches from turning into sugar. This is a plus for those who are following a low carb diet. Most of us try to keep our carbs below 30 grams. Eating carbs can quickly knock you out of ketosis. White Kidney bean extract is believed to also be effective in suppressing appetite for some people,

You might be thinking that white kidney bean extract would have carbs in it as kidney beans are a starch. No worries. This is an extract and supplement. Carb blockers will not in themselves, knock you out of ketosis. They are a supplement that is designed to support a low carb diet on those rare cheat days you may have.

Carb Blockers – Do they work?

My personal experience is yes they work. I don’t have a cheat day often, but when I do, I always have a couple of carb blockers before that meal. I have found it helps me to not gain weight and I am able to quickly get back into ketosis.

Actually, I’ve noticed that I am able to stay in ketosis most of the time. I have tested this using a ketone testing strips and although I might not be in moderate, I am almost always in small. This is a win. I love that my small event doesn’t just totally kick me out of ketosis as long as I take a couple of carb blockers beforehand. It is almost as if the “cheat” never happened.

I like that the pills block the starches yet they are natural and can’t harm me in any way. I use them for extra support on those rare days that I want to cheat. Another bonus is I find I am quickly satisfied and I am less likely to overeat. It is almost as if I get my “cheat” out of my system. So I can then get right back into being healthy.

Another way I use Carb Blockers is pryer to drinking alcohol. Once in a while, I enjoy drinking a beer. I have found that this supplement helps to absorb the starches from the beer. Again this is something that is rare for me, but when I do indulge, I use carb blockers.

Drinking on a Low Carb Diet – Alcohol

Which Carb Blockers are best for Keto Cheat Day?

I only use Carb Blockers that are 100% Pure White Kidney Bean Extract. But what I have found is that most carb blockers all have pretty much the same ingredients.

I look for a product that is natural and the best value for the money. Many starch blockers cost up to thirty dollars a bottle.

Keto Cheat Meal is simply pure white kidney bean extract. It is very low in cost and it works! I love that Keto Cheat Meal offers a money back guarantee for anyone who is skeptical.

The way they work is you simply take 2 tablets a half hour before a high starch meal.

Again, carb blockers are something that can be used to support you on a planned cheat, however, if you want success with your keto lifestyle, your cheats should only happen every once in a while.

Another good carb blocker is CBlock Carb Blocker. What I love about CBlock Carb Blocker is that not only does it include Trim Plex also known as white kidney bean extract which helps to inhibit the absorption of starch when we eat a high carb meal. Trim Plex inhibits the production of the alpha amylase enzyme as well. This enzyme helps to break down the starches into sugars for digestion. This is something we don’t want when following a low carb diet.

Not only that, this product includes added chromium and vanadium which are two elements that help to regulate blood sugar levels. This is really important for the keto way of living and more importantly for type two diabetes who are trying to avoid carbs. What a win! you get to rev up your metabolism while you cut cravings for carbs at the same time.

So in conclusion, I believe from my own personal experience, Carb Blockers work on Keto.

Have you used Carb Blockers? I would love to hear your experiences below.

  1. Wow, this is the first time I’ve heard of these and being on Keto for two years I feel like I’m missing out.

Although the times I have messed up they never seem to be planned but like you said if you were to plan ahead or know you would be in a place that you couldn’t eat Keto this would be the way to go.

That is a great price especially since they wouldn’t be using them all the time,  my question though:  could you take them daily to potentially block “creepy carbs” that you didn’t know of?

I’m definitely going to look into these more and I’m going to forward this site to two of my friends, thank you so much for this review.

    1. Hi Amanda. Yes these are great for blocking the carbs but I’m not sure if it is something that I would use daily.

  2. Thanks for the article. I have never heard of carb blocking before now. My dad is diabetic and has been trying to reduce weight and stay in ketosis. While sometimes he eats in between meal as he can’t help himself. Now its not going to be a huge problem since he’s trying to maintain his present weight. But now I know this its going to be even easier and a bit more enjoyable as he can now worry less about weight gain with this carb blocker. Thanks for that timely article

  3. Hi, this is amazing to learn. I didn’t even know about such Carb blockers to get rig of the keto cheats, As the article clarifies that taking carb blocker made from White Kidney Bean extracts, I will definitely try this. I am excited to enjoy the results illustrated in  your article. Thanks a lot. Looking forward for a very exciting experience. Thanks Wendy !

  4. Hi Wendy
I never knew there was such a thing as a natural carb blocker. As part of a keto diet most people serious about their weight would I think avoid anything artificial in this regard. To discover a carb blocker therefore which is derived from only a natural ingredient such as white kidney beans is a game-changer! I get the point that again if anyone is serious about following the keto regime then they should not be looking for work-arounds on a regular basis, however life has a way of disrupting even the best laid plans and good intentions. This supplement is certainly something to consider if you know you have an event coming up where it is likely you will find it difficult to stay on track, such as a wedding or another celebration where good manners and participation come before personal goals. I mean, it’s the other person’s big day not yours and you are going to want to eat and drink with the rest of the party. I think for planned events such as these where you really can say, OK, two hours from now its cake or pizza time, this supplement is a great way to be able to enjoy yourself without completely falling off the wagon. Thanks Wendy for bringing this to my attention.

    1. Alison, you are so right. Sometimes we just want to splurge. No one wants to be the odd one who doesn’t want to enjoy the event. So, yes taking a carb block makes a difference. I use it before eating pizza or a high carb meal. And it works for beer and alcohol as well. Beer is very high in carbs and sometimes you just want to enjoy doing some tasting. This is my go to. The point is, we can live keto for the rest of our lives, supplements like these help us along the way. As always, I love your comments!

  5. Great Content and InformationThanks for this concise and thorough article on carb blockers. I am just getting to know about this lovely supplement; I appreciate the fact that you shared your experience with us. This is the type of information some so-called professional bloggers will love to hide from public knowledge. I’m so happy I found your blog.

I am going to get my keto cheat meal anytime soon. Thanks for sharing

  6. I have never experienced  a Keto diet, but one of my relatives is a diabetic, and could benefit from such a diet.

Many diabetics follow the Banting diet, to avoid taking insulin, and it appears to work well for most of them,

I wonder what the differences, and similarities, between the two are,and could my relative benefit from the Keto diet.

This kidney bean extract, sounds a though it is a very good thing, to have in your arsenal.

    1. Hi Robert. I have never heard of the Banting diet. I will have to research it. However, if your relative is diabetic and wants to learn how to turn things around, I highly recommend you have him read the Diabetes Code byDr. Jason Fung. It is eye-opening. You can learn how to reverse diabetes. Yes, we can heal our body through food.

And yes, he/she would benefit from carb blockers before eating a high carb meal.

  7. We are to be keto enthusiasts. Everything they do is devoted to inspiring people to transform their lives by changing the way they eat and how they feel through the keto way of life. Join the Keto Movement by following them on Social Media! Could carb blockers be used in conjunction with a ketogenic/low carb diet? I’ve been on low carb/keto for some years, I’ve lost 50lbs and I’m very happy with my weight, but I’d love to get rid of that last stubborn 7-8lbs (I’m someone who is constantly stressed and lacks time for consistent exercise which I know would easily melt away those last few pounds), I’m wondering if adding a starch blocker to my keto diet would maybe accelerate the weight loss, even by a tiny bit? What do people think of the possible benefits of using starch neutralizers in conjunction with keto?

    1. Congrats on the 50-pound weight loss!

I will tell you stress plays a huge role in weight loss as it affects our hormones making it harder to lose weight. And it can also cause stress eating and weight loss resistance.  Carb Blockers can help on those days that you simply want to eat carbs. However, I don’t recommend for every day especially if you are doing low carb most of the time. This supplement is meant more for blocking carbs on rare cheats.

  8. Weight loss is a subject that has increasingly become important in our daily discussions. I never knew of carb blockers, it’s really I welcomed innovation. It’s painful when you attend a family function, and you can’t take out of the cake. This is a ready solution to this problem, I have not made use of carb blockers before, I just take as little high carb food as I can, when the occasion arises. Thanks for this information, I’ll surely get carb blockers for my cheat days.

    1. I agree, Louis. It is nice to go to a family event and not feel deprived.  If I want a rare piece of cake or pasta it is nice to know I can use Keto Cheat Meal Carb Blockers.

  9. Hi, this is read-worthy and interesting, I guess. But, it would be better if you could provide some statistical research outcomes in the article. What scientists say and what practical experience shows are two different approach. If your experience is okay, then it would help most of us in following the results in practical life. Please, provide some research data if possible. However, the article is really informative and interesting to read. Regards,

    1. Hi Radeetalam! Actually, there isn’t much statistical research out there. I looked. I did, however, find an article by Consumer Lab where they answer the question: Can white kidney bean extract really help me lose weight? They conclude that “Taking white kidney bean extract before meals may help fat loss (particularly if you eat a high starch diet) and, if combined with a sensible diet and exercise, with modest weight loss. Other than some initial gassiness, it is likely to be safe. Long-term efficacy and safety, however, have not been evaluated.”

Keep in mind I’m not suggesting that anyone use carb blockers as a weight loss solution. I’m simply stating that I find them helpful when I have a high carb cheat day that is outside of my normal low carb way of eating.

Thanks so much for the suggestion and feedback. Have a beautiful day!

  10. This is an interesting article. I’m wondering what it exactly means to keep your body in ketosis. How does that help your body lose weight and stay healthy? Also, I like knowing that white kidney bean extract works for you! I am wondering, though, if you’ve had experience with other carb blockers and, if so, how has that experience led you to only trust white kidney bean extract as a carb blocker on cheat days?

    1. Hi Tucker! I am excited to answer your question. You are new to Keto which is pretty exciting. Ketosis is the switch from being a glucose burner to a fat burner. Meaning most people use carbs and sugar for fuel, others like me use fat for fuel. When you cut back the carbs in your diet, your body makes a switch and will start to use ketones for fuel. There are many health benefits, and many people lose weight because their body uses fat reserves for fuel.

About the carb blockers and white kidney bean extract. There are hundreds out there. They all do the same thing. I just prefer natural if possible and I also look at the overall value.

I’ve used carb blockers myself, many different brands, these two are the better ones out there.

I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for stopping by.

  11. I’m convinced, I just want to understand more how this thing works. When you say, “White kidney bean extract helps to absorb starch so they won’t turn into sugar,” does it mean our body or the kidney bean extract that’s absorbing the starch?

I think I need this one, as I don’t wanna deprive myself like in occasions where the family enjoy dining for special celebrations. This summer, two of my nephews are graduating in college and we are planning of an extravagant celebration. Delicious food will be served! These carb blockers may be the solution that I need.

    1. It really just helps your body NOT turn the carbs into sugar. So you are less likely to gain weight from that meal. It is only meant for those rare times that you have a cheat day. It helps a lot.

  12. Mind = Blown. I had no idea there was such a thing! This could definitely aid someone in the keto lifestyle by the sounds of it. I saw in one of your comments about consumber labs report on the product being safe for occassional, short term use in conjunction with other healthy lifestyle habits such as a healthy diet and exercise. But that overall efficacy and long term safety have not been evaluated. You should include this in your article (for those that don’t take the time to read the comments). For the simple fact a lone there isn’t much research on it makes me weery to try it. Have there been any known reports of adverse reaction or health issues after taking it? If not – you can remark on that and help put some fear at ease. Either way, you have sparked my interest! I do have two questions. 1. When consuming prior to alcohol, will it affect the effects of alcohol or just the carbs? I.e – will taking it keep me from getting a buzz. Asking for a friend….lol 😉 2. Will this block any nutrients OTHER than carbs from being absorbed?

Thanks for the information! I like discovering new awesome supplements 🙂

    1. Thanks for the suggestions and for taking the time to read my post. To answer question number #1: it will not affect the effects of alcohol. I know this from personal experience. I always take two carb blockers before drinking alcohol and I always get a bit of a buzz. I’ve always been more sensitive since doing low carb. As for nutrients being blocked other than the carbs? This is a question I don’t have an answer for you. But my thinking is carb blockers are only used rarely when I am having a high carb meal or cheat like ice cream or cake. How many nutrients are in those highly processed foods anyway? Carb blockers are not an everyday supplement.

Thanks again, Sherry for stopping by. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

  13. I just recently started hearing about keto diet and I am genuinely interested in adopting the lifestyle.

But, I have a few concerns, which is, don’t I get to get a break every now and then. Thankfully, your article has addressed my concern.

I now know that I can use carb blockers on days I want to cheat.

    1. Yes, you can, just don’t over do it too often or it will sabotage all of your progress. This is for just every once in a while.

  14. Hi, Wendy and thanks for this interesting info.  Up until I found your site I have never heard of “Carb Blockers” or that beer had starch in it.

If they really work as you say then I think many could benefit from taking this supplement, myself included.

You say that this is a natural product and can’t harm us in any way.  Does that include people that are on meds for cholesterol and other medications?

I am not on a Keto diet at this time.  Could “Carb Blockers” still be of some benefit to me?

Sadly, this product doesn’t ship to Canada so I may have to look elsewhere to find something suitable.  Still… it’s good to know that there are products like this available for those struggling with weight loss.

    All the best,

  15. Hello Wendy,
I appreciate your writing. I literally had no idea about carb blocker and how is it made. It is super cool that eating carbs can quickly knock anyone out of ketosis. As you said it really works I will definitely try this one. I think it would be helpful for me because like you I also drink beer sometimes. In most cases, when I spend my time with my buddies I drink alcohol. As you said carb blockers can absorb starch from the beer, it is obvious for me.
Thank you so much for writing this amazing article.
    Tushar 🙂

  16. Great article and informative lessons. Thanks for writing this details analysis and thorough article on carb blockers. I have just learned about this lovely supplement. I am happy on the fact that you shared your real life experience with us. I would not even know this important information if I did not read this article. I believe that my family members will also be happy after reading this secret supplement of carb blockers.
I am going to implement my secret meal anytime soon. Thanks for writing this helpful tips.

  17. I never even knew Carb Blockers was a thing! We all have those times when we cheat on our diets and regret it afterwards. It is really good to know that there is a way to be able to have a cheat day every once in a while and not feel guilty about it. This product is certainly worth buying and is reasonably priced too. Thank you for sharing this great information.

  18. Hi Wendy! I had been asking myself this question, and although I hadn’t tried carb blockers yet, I was beginning to suspect that they were only effective in ads. But reading your experience is comforting. I have been following your blog for sometime and I know you’re honest about recommendations. I particularly liked CBlock Carb Blocker, so I’ll give it a try. Thanks!

  19. Thank you for taking the time to share you experience with carb blockers.   I had been wondering if they really help you block carbs if you are on a Keto diet.

Thank you for reminding us that they are best used for “cheat days” or when we decide we want to indulge in a nice beer.   In other words, we still need to reduce the amount of carbs that we are regularly consuming.

  20. I’ve heard a lot about the keto diet and have been interested in trying it out, so a post like this one is really appreciated. I feel like if I were to do the keto diet for the rest of my life there would be at least a few hundred cheat days haha, so carb blockers sound like an excellent solution. I like straight away that carb blockers are made from natural substances by way of white kidney bean extract. I am always on the lookout for organic and natural products. I like both of your recommendations in Keto Cheat Meal and CBlock Carb Blocker. I’ll be following your links to check out these products further for sure, well done!

  21. Hey Wendy,

Great article, one of my clients is on Keto and he actually asked me about carb blockers the other day. I had to be honest and say that it isn’t really something I have expertise in. Your article has made it very simple to understand, is there a limit as to the grams of carbohydrates these supplements can block?

  22. Hi Wendy,

Very recently my wife and I switched to a Keto diet and your article means a lot to us. I am a regular visitor to your site and every time I visit your site, I learn a lot of helpful and useful information.

Information about Carb Blockers is an eye-opener to me and I am unaware of it. The benefits of Carb Blockers are amazing and sharing from your own experience gives assurance and hope to me.

Keto Cheat Meal is the one I am interested with and it’s on my list. The 30-day money-back guarantee is just like icing on the cake. Thanks a lot for sharing!

  23. Hi Wendy,

I’m glad I found your article today to know more about the Carbs blockers, I didn’t know anything about them so I read the full article.

It makes quite interesting to know they could help anyone who on those diet cheating days, it will be easier to go on eating some food once in a while with no guilty.

I read you don’t recommend to have it on daily basic, but only on those cheating days, I will keep that in my mind.

I will take a look to your two products you share in the post to know more about each one, it will be a good idea to have them at home, just in case 🙂

  24. Hi Wendy,

This is a very nice post about carb blockers.
I am currently becoming keen about what I eat but have not been able to keep the discipline. I sometimes get to feed on high-calorie meals like cakes (just last night our younger son was celebrating his 2nd birthday).

But now I’ve learned that there are carb blockers, and they help in such times. However, I kindly request that you may expound on what ketosis is all about and how white kidney beans help in this process. I’ll really appreciate that information.

    Boniface- from AndroidBix

    1. Ketosis is when your body uses fat for energy rather than glucose. Also, white kidney bean extract and carb blockers have nothing to do with Keto. Carb blockers are what anyone can take before a high carb meal. The white kidney bean extract helps to absorb the starches so they don’t turn to sugar. But again, I only use starch blockers on very rare occasions. They are not meant for every day.

  25. This is good to hear,

I never heard about such information before, carb blockers seem to be a good just because we take food with high carbs level which is sometimes dangerous to our life. the best thing is that this product is very cheap so anyone can afford it. but I wanted to if I am supposed to use carb blocker every day? then how does it taste? am not a fan of sour stuff.

    1. No, Mugalu. Don’t take carb blockers daily. Instead, simply take before a high starch or high carb meal. The white kidney bean extract helps to absorb the carbs.

  26. I’m a big fan of carb blockers, for me they work great! However, it’s important to keep in mind that Phaseolus vulgaris (what is actually extracted from WKB) can only block COMPLEX carbs. Think whole grains, (oats, brown/ wild rice, barley) starchy veggies, (potatoes, corn) pretty much all other veggies, beans and legumes. There are far more of course, and a quick Google search lays them all out. WKB extract does absolutely NOTHING to block simple carbs. Sugar, white flour, beer, fruit, low fat dairy products are some examples. I take it twice a day before meals. Having done keto both with and without, I get better and faster results with a blocker! Thanks for putting this article out! FYI, there have been several peer reviewed studies on the effects of Phaseolus vulgaris; although they were inconclusive as to the weight loss benefits, (some found positive results, others found none) it was definitively found to help lower GI and reduce appetite. Cheers all!
