What are Fat Bombs for Keto?

baconIf you have been researching or doing a low carb, high-fat diet, you probably have heard some people mention fat bombs. And you may have wondered exactly what are Keto fat bombs? A keto fat bomb is simply a quick snack that consists of mainly fat and little to no carbs. They are typically made with real butter, nut butter, cream cheese or coconut oil.

My favorite sort of fat bomb is simply to make a batch of cheese chips. They are super easy to make and simply melted cheese. You bake them until they are well done and nice a crispy.

Or as an option, you can also buy cheese chips at your local store. Just check the label and make sure that the only ingredient is cheese.

My other favorite fat bomb is to simply bake some bacon. I like to take some thick bacon and cook it in the oven until it is nice and crispy. I use a 350-degree oven and let my bacon cook for about 30 minutes or so. Once it is cooked down, I keep it in the refrigerator for a quick snack when needed. I also like to break up my bacon and add it to salads.

Now that low carb, high fat is becoming more popular there are also lots of fat bombs available to buy online. And there are thousands of fat bomb recipes books available online as well as recipes.


Most fat bombs are very easy to make and usually only use a couple of ingredients.

For me, I tend to go for anything that has chocolate in it. Chocolate just seems to make everything taste great. And by the way, you may not know this, but chocolate is a really great option as a snack on a low carb diet. Try to choose the chocolate that is higher in cacao. The higher in cocoa the less sugar. I choose 86% cocoa bars. But keep in mind, if you are used to milk chocolate, which is very high in sugar, this will be a bit bitter for you. But you can get used to it and learn to love it like I do.

Fried Cabbage Bacon Recipe

20160831_111008One of the pluses on eating a high-fat diet, is that I have discovered many new foods. I don’t know if my taste buds are changing or what, but I am really craving cabbage lately.

So I wanted to share with you one of my favorite cabbage meals that I love. And that is cabbage with Bacon. When you prepare this meal the cabbage is so tender and sweet. You just can’t stop eating it.

What you need:

1. Good Size head of Cabbage cut into small pieces or use 2 bags of cole slaw mix. (Green or purple cabbage will work).
2. 5 pieces of bacon.
3. 1 medium onion.
4. Salt and Pepper to taste.

It is really easy to make. All you need is a good size head of cabbage, 4 or 5 slices of bacon, one large sweet onion.

Cut up the bacon into smaller pieces and place into a pan. Heat over medium/high flame until it is crispy.

Remove the cooked bacon and leave the oil in the pan.

Now add the cut up onions and cook in the bacon fat until they start to become translucent.

Next, Add the cut up cabbage and turn the temperature down to medium. I like to put a lid on it and let cabbage cook for about 3-5 minutes. Then I turn cabbage over for a few more minutes.

Once cabbage is cooked, add the bacon back in and add salt and pepper to taste.

If you don’t have bacon on hand, you can make up fried cabbage as a side dish. I cook it in extra virgin coconut oil and it is delicious. I also like to add in a bit of onion powder or garlic powder.

How To Make Cheese Chips In 8 Minutes Flat

One of the biggest things that I missed when I started my low-carb, high-fat diet was crunchy crackers or potato chips. And, of course, I can’t have them, because they are full carbs and sugar. And worse yet, they make me fat.

But cheese has zero carbs and are full of fat. Which is what we want to eat on a low carb diet. So cheese is a really good alternative to crackers or chips.

Cheese chips are simply cheese that has melted until it is well done and crunchy. The following recipe is how I make the perfect chips for dipping. And it is super easy to make.

How to Make Cheese Chips

Use any kind of cheese you want...This is peperjack

What you will need

  • cookie sheet
  • parchment paper
  • cheese (only use full-fat cheese. Don’t use anything low fat and especially don’t use processed cheese)
  • egg timer
  • spices
  1. Set oven to 400 degrees
  2. place a sheet of parchment paper on the cookie sheet.
  3. place 6 slices of cheese on the paper.
  4. sprinkle spices on the cheese. I like to use paprika, pepper, red pepper flakes or Italian seasoning.

  5. place cooking sheet in the oven.
  6. Set timer for 8 minutes
  7. Make sure chips are brown around the edges and bubbly before you remove from the oven.
  8. Let the chips cool for a few minutes.

Enjoy your chips alone or use then to dip into guacamole or salsa.

Hint: If you take the cheese fresh out of the oven and gently lay it over a spoon to crisp up, you will have a taco shape. Now you have a low carb shell to use for tacos!

You can also use shredded cheese. Just make little mounds of the cheese on your parchment paper. It will all melt together and taste exactly the same.

Processed food is designed to be tasty!

If you think about it, the normal American diet of highly processed food is very tasty because it is often lots of additives. Processed food is designed to be full of salt, sugar, and bad fats. They want you to not only love it the taste of the food, but they want you addicted to it. This way you will buy it again and again.

This is true with soda and chips. I know many people who drink sodas all day long. And I don’t think I know anyone who can just eat one potato chip.

Processed food is the root cause of many health issues, including type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.  And it’s making America fat. 3 in 4 people are overweight or obese. And that is really sad to me.

Real Food Is Boring – NOT!

When you are eating “real food”, without all of the added crap, initially it may seem a bit boring. But keep in mind, you have to give yourself a chance to adjust. And the first couple of weeks you may have to deal with some cravings. But you will work through it. Just know that you are doing a good thing for yourself by cleaning the crap out of your body and giving it the nutrition it deserves.

No Need To Be Bored With Your Ketosis Diet

  • Pour on the Fat! Don’t be afraid of fat. Olive oil and coconut oil taste wonderful and can make boring veggies amazing. Butter and bacon can add incredible flavor to your foods as well.
  • Shake that Salt. It is okay to add some salt to your foods. Keep in mind, you are not getting nearly as much salt as you did when you ate salty processed foods. So go ahead and shake it on.
  • Spice it up! I love to add all sorts of different spices and herbs. I have discovered all sorts of different tastes. Just be careful of premixed spices. Often they add extra sugar.
  • Try New Things: Don’t be afraid to experience new foods. I never had eggplant before but I saw a recipe that looked interesting so I tried it out. It was actually pretty good and easy to make.
  • Recipes! I have several recipe books on hand and I’m constantly trying out new things. Now it seems my LCHF diet never gets boring.

My favorite recipe book is The Ketosis Cookbook. This cookbook has 370 yummy Keto recipes. I like that it is full of colorful images along with step by step directions. You will never be bored with this cookbook on hand.

Low Carb Cream Of Mushroom Soup Recipe

I have really been experimenting a lot with food since I’ve been eating a low carb diet. So today, I thought it would be fun to share with you how I made a yummy pot of low carb cream of mushroom soup for dinner a few days ago.

My boyfriend came home with 16 oz. of mushrooms and I was worried that they would go bad if we didn’t eat them quickly enough. So I decided to make a big pot of mushroom soup.

I love mushroom soup, but the canned soups always have lots of added crap that we don’t need. And I used to make homemade soup for my kids over the years, so I decided, “What the heck”.

Here is what I did.

In a large skillet, I sauteed one large onion chopped up and all of the mushrooms (pre-sliced) with about 2 tablespoons of butter (grass fed).

Once the onions were translucent, I added 4 cups of chicken broth. Then I brought it to a boil.

Once my broth came to a boil, I turned down to low and added 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and a 1/2 cup of sour cream.

Then I added a bit of pepper, soy sauce, and garlic powder until it tasted the way I liked it.

The next thing I did was take it off the heat and break up the mushrooms a bit with my smart stick hand blender. This helped to make the soup a tiny bit thicker.

The soup turned out really good. It tasted wonderful. I do wish it was a bit thicker.

I am also excited to try out some of the recipes in the 200 Low-Carb, High-Fat Recipes book that I received on Monday. I have been reading it and bookmarked several that I want to try out.

Who knew low-carb, high fat could be so much fun!

200 Low-Carb, High-Fat Recipes

I am so excited about this book that I just ordered from Amazon.com. It is called 200 Low-Carb, High-Fat Recipes.

I have been living the low carb lifestyle for a few months now, but I am starting to get bored with the same sort of foods. Although I love eating this way it is easy to run out of ideas of what to make for dinner. I mean there are so many different ways you can make eggs. After a while, you get tired of eggs.

This book has many very easy recipes that I am looking forward to trying.

For example, I love avocados. But it wasn’t until I read this book that I realized how great avocados are fried. I just tried out a recipe and it is really yummy! I think I will be making fried avocados very often. 

I want to have lots of ideas for how to eat on a low carb diet because this isn’t just a diet for me. It is how I intend to eat for the rest of my life. It is an entire lifestyle change.

Most of the recipes in this book are very simple and basic. Which is why I think it is perfect for someone who is new to eating lchf. I know when I first started I had no idea what I could eat. This book gives you 200 suggestions.

The author, Dana Carpender, has a great writing style which is very informative as well as entertaining. I found the book very easy to read and really enjoyed checking out the recipes. 

I really appreciate that Dana also explains in detail why and how a low-carb, high-fat diet works. This isn’t just a recipe book. It is a book full of valuable information as well.

One thing that I did notice right away is that there aren’t any images like other typical recipe books. But this isn’t a typical recipe book. Who needs images anyway? I don’t.  If the recipe has ingredients that I like, I will be sure to try it.

For me, it is about simplicity. I want recipes that are easy to make. I don’t mind cooking, but I hate spending hours in the kitchen. I like meals that the majority of recipes in the 200 low-carb, high-fat recipe book are easy to throw together.

Make Your Own Bulletproof Coffee

My favorite part of my day is my first cup of home made bulletproof coffee. Yummy!

Bulletproof coffee is simply coffee with added fat. There are many different kinds of fat that you can add to your coffee. Some people simply add heavy whipping cream to their coffee while others use extra virgin coconut oil or clarified butter (ghee) or butter from grass fed cows.

I love bulletproof coffee because it helps my body to burn more of its own fat.

First of all, it tastes so yummy. I like coffee with both cream and butter. But sometimes I do cream and coconut oil. And if I’m eating out at a restaurant I will just use butter. The reason is most restaurants only offer half and half which has sugar (from the milk). So, I just ask the waitress to please give me a few pats of butter and although I get weird faces they always bring it to me. But I gotta check. Believe it or not, some places only carry margarine and of course I don’t want that crap. So in that case, I just drink my coffee black.

Make your own coffee bulletproof coffee. I suggest spending the extra money and buy a good quality premium coffee like Black&Gold. I prefer to buy coffee in the bean form and I grind them myself. You will love it if you do this. The coffee smells so good and it tastes better than anything you can get out at a restaurant.

If you have never used a coffee grinder, you should try it. Your coffee smells so fresh and tasted delicious. You will never buy already ground coffee again. And they are not very expensive.

The coffee grinder we use at home is the Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Blade Grinder. I love that this grinder makes it easy to measure the perfect amount. Plus I can choose how I want it ground. I prefer a very fine grind. The Best thing about this grinder is that you can twist the bowl off the top and easily pour it into your coffee filter.

If I’m just making one cup then I just use my Keurig along with the brew filter so I can add my own freshly ground coffee. But it is up to you. Many of the k-cups taste pretty good.

Choose any of the options below as your fat. By adding fat, you will help encourage your body to burn more fat and you will also not feel hungry. I often am able to skip breakfast simply because I’m not hungry. My bulletproof coffee is enough.

Best Fats For Bullet Proof Coffee:

Heavy Whipping Cream: I love cream. It is so creamy and yummy. Now that I use it in my coffee, I wonder why I didn’t try it before.

Ghee (clarified oil) or butter: I love the different flavor I get in my coffee. I prefer salted butter. It just gives the coffee a unique taste. For me, this is my preference.

Extra virgin coconut oil: I like this because it gives the coffee a slightly coconut taste while making it taste creamy. This is my boyfriends preference. Tip-make sure it says “extra virgin” or you will not be getting the same quality.

How you make it is up to you.

Skeptical? Don’t knock it til you try it.

I know, I was hesitant to try it. Now, I will only drink my coffee with fat added to it. It tastes good and it makes me a fat burning machine.

How To Make Bone Broth

Bone Broth has many health benefits and is a great addition to any diet. But I started using it when I added intermittent fasting with my low carb high fat diet.

I discovered that making bone broth is really easy using a crock pot because the crock pot does all the work. I just threw it all in the pot.

How to Make Bone Broth

20160419_101057All you need to do is save any bones left over from dinner. You can use chicken, beef or fish bones. Or you can simply get some beef marrow bones from the store. I prefer to use bones from grass-fed beef as it is healthier.

I started with raw bones so I roasted them in a 350-degree oven for about 30. This helps to get the juices flowing.

Then I put them in my crockpot. I have a 6 quart slow cooker that is the perfect size for making broth. But you can use what you have. You can even do your broth on the stove top on low. Just keep in mind that it needs to cook for several hours so a good crockpot may be the best bet.

After I added the bones, I added my vegetables. Veggies help to give the broth some flavor. I use carrots, onion, celery and I also added a bay Leaf. I cut the veggies into big pieces as they will be thrown out when the broth is done.

Next, I added about a 1/4 cup of vinegar because it helps to break down the bones. Then I poured in filtered water until the veggies were just covered. And last but not least, I added salt and pepper.

Next, I turned my slow cooker on low and let it go for about 24 hours. I did it on a Saturday morning and finished the bone broth on Sunday. It is important to let the broth go long enough to extract all of the yummy nutrients from the bones.

After the broth cooled down, I took a strainer and removed all of the bones and veggies from the broth. Then I put the broth in a bowl and put it in the refrigerator.

After the broth chilled, the fat will separate and I simply took a spoon and scraped it off of the top.

This gave me enough broth for the week. I stored my broth in a large bowl in the fridge but I just ordered some mason jars as I think it will make it way easier to store the broth. All I will need to do is pour out what I need.

The broth should be good in the fridge for up to a week but if you prefer, you can freeze it using freezer bags. Just fill and then lay flat in the freezer.

I love the way it tastes and how it makes me feel.
