One of the biggest frustrations for someone who follows a low carb lifestyle is finding keto friendly salad dressings that meet all the criteria that is important to me.

For the most part, we make our own keto salad dressings and keto mayonnaise. I’m really picky about what goes in my body. And when Brian makes his keto friendly mayonnaise, he only uses light olive oil or avocado oil. And then we use this low carb mayo as the base for our salad dressing. Or sometimes we simply dribble some olive oil and vinegar on our salads. However once in a while it is just easier to use store bought salad dressing or mayonnaise.

But finding salad dressing that is keto friendly and tastes good can be difficult. I have spent lots of time reading labels in grocery stores. I would find a sugar free salad dressing and then read the nutrition facts and find out that it is made with soy or canola oil which I stay away from. These oils are horrible for people as they are genetically modified and actually as bad as trans fats. Personally, when it comes to oil I only use olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and mct oil to cook with. I also use ghee, butter and bacon fat to cook with. So when I choose a salad dressing. I want it to contain these fats and nothing that is GMO or a trans fat. I want real food only.

So as you can see, finding a keto friendly salad dressing can be a challenge, but not impossible.

When shopping for low carb salad dressings, I would look for products made with olive oil or canola oil. I came close many times but after reading the labels closely I found that most of the salad dressings that claimed to be made of these good oils actually had canola oil or soybean oil as the first ingredient. How can they get away with this? I wondered how many people thought they were getting olive oil salad dressing and it actually was made out of something else! Yes, it had olive oil in it, but it also had soybean and/or canola oil.

I’m so excited! We just picked up our new Ninja pressure cooker air fryer. We have been wanting one for a long time but couldn’t decide on which one to get. But after a lot of research, we picked the Ninja Foodi TenderCrisp Multi-Cooker and Fryer All-in-One (OP305)

The thing that attracted me to the idea of an air fryer is that I wanted an easy way to make some of my favorite low carb foods like bacon and steak. And believe me, this air fryer does an amazing job. Bacon is very crispy and steak cooks perfectly.

But I also make a lot of bone broth as I like to sip on it when I’m doing my extended autophagy fasts. However, when I make homemade bone broth in my crock pot it can take 36 hours or more. So I wanted a pressure cooker so I could make in only a few hours. This would save me a lot of time and electricity!

So this brought me to the idea of getting an air fryer and pressure cooker combo.

One of the nice side effects of following a low carb diet is that your cravings for sweets go away. And this is really a good thing if you need to avoid sugar for health reasons.

I made a decision to give up sugar for my health and overall happiness. Once I gave up sugar, I lost weight and I feel like I have gotten my life back.

I love this keto lifestyle, but with it being a lifestyle, the thought of never having candy or sweets sounds awfully restrictive. Instead, I suggest candy that only uses natural sweeteners like monk fruit, stevia, erythritol as they don’t raise blood sugar at all. And xylitol hard candy is a good option as well because the blood sugar effects are minimal. Actually, when it comes to candy, I would go for hard candy with xylitol as you wouldn’t have the same aftertaste you get with the others.

Best Almond Flour Pizza Crust

I really don’t have many cravings or miss the carbs much since I’ve been living a low carb lifestyle, but one thing that I do miss once in a while is a nice slice of pizza.

The good news is there are lots of ways to make pizza with fewer carbs. I’ve had cauliflower crust pizza and I’ve even made personalized pizzas using portabella mushrooms. And although I love the taste, I really just miss the crunch.

The Simple Mills pizza dough is really easy to make. All you need to do is add a bit of olive oil, water, and vinegar. Mix it until it becomes like dough and press it into a well-greased cookie sheet. I like to press my dough out so it is really thin. This way it gets nice and crispy.

I have also tried Simple Mills artisan bread and it was wonderful. I made it into a flatbread. I topped it with some Himalayan sea salt, fresh rosemary, and some melted butter. It was out of this world!

All of the Simple Mills gluten-free products are very low in sugar and carbs so they are perfect for Type 2 diabetics or those who are trying to limit sugar in their diet.

Keep in mind, these products are all wonderful but to me, they are NOT for every day. Just like anything else, if you go overboard you can easily knock yourself out of ketosis and slow down your progress. But for a once in a while splurge, it is worth it!


 

What is the No Carb Diet Plan ?

Recently I’ve been seeing a lot more information out there about the No Carb Diet Plan which is also known as the Carnivore Diet and I wanted to share with you what I learned about it.

The no carb diet is when you eat a diet that is mainly just meat. And meat and fish have zero carbs. So if a person eats a diet consisting of only meat, then they will not getting any carbs.

Most carnivores try to stick with the fattier cuts of meat or fattier fish like salmon and it helps their body use the fat for fuel. So they use ketones for fuel rather than glucose. Some carnivores also eat other meat products like cream, cheese, and eggs. And some use the bones to make bone broth which is full of healthy collegian.

What’s The Difference Between The Carnivore Diet and The Ketogenic Diet?

The no carb diet is very similar to the low carb, high-fat way of eating except is is much more extreme. We both use ketones as fuel. However, with a low carb lifestyle, you also get to include a wide range of veggies and even some fruits. Most people keep their daily carbs below 30 grams.

I personally keep my daily carb intake below 20. I eat lots of meats (I prefer grass fed beef), and fish. I also eat cheese, eggs, and veggies. I don’t eat root veggies or fruits. Once in a blue moon, I may have some berries. I just find other fruits are too high in natural sugar for me and makes my joints hurt. I also get headaches when I eat too much sugar. My body simply prefers the lower carb foods.

You may be wondering why in the world a person would want to eat a no carb carnivorous diet. I mean it does sound very extreme and not very appealing. But people do it for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is the many benefits that come with eating an extremely low carb. There are lots of benefits to doing a carnivorous diet. 

Benefits of Carnivore Diet

  • Eat the Foods You Love! Many people hate veggies and love eating meat. Most men would prefer a nice t bone steak over veggies any day. Eating a zero carb diet is perfect for them. They get to eat all the foods they love while they lose weight.
  • Lose Weight or Kick-Start a Weight Loss Plateau. Sometimes when someone is losing weight they hit a plateau where it feels like their weight simply isn’t budging on the scale. Eating zero carbs for a few days is a great way to kick start your weight loss. You can lose weight quickly while maintaining your lean muscle.   • Feel Better! Many people find that by eliminating processed foods, starches and fruits from their diet they are able to think clearer and have more energy. People just feel better in general.
  • It’s Simple: There is nothing easier than eating meat all day long. It is the simplest plan out there.
  • No Hunger:  When you eat meat you feel very satiated. So you are less likely to crave other foods.

Will I be trying out the carnivore diet myself? Probably not as I love my veggies too much. I’m not ready to give them up at all. I also enjoy a variety of tastes and textures. I think I would get totally bored eating only meat products.

But from time to time when I have had a cheat day, I will do an egg fast for the next few days. On egg fast days, I just eat eggs when I’m hungry and I can really drop a few pounds quickly. Then I go back to eating my normal low carb. I suppose in a way this is similar to the carnivore diet.

I just finished reading, Lies My Doctor Told Me: Medical Myths That Can Harm Your Health by K. D. Berry, MD and I loved it! Dr. Berry doesn’t write like a doctor at all, meaning his book is really down to earth. It is an easy read. Not like some of the books that are hard to read with a bunch of medical mumbo-jumbo.

I found myself laughing through the book and I kept wanting to say out loud “I told you so”. Because sometimes I get so frustrated with the backward thinking that people have when they are dieting. But they are following the advice of their well-meaning dietitians and doctors who tell them to count calories or eat a balanced diet.  Rather, than use common sense and realize that if you have done all of that and keep getting fatter than perhaps it isn’t working. It really isn’t rocket science.

The biggest thing that I took from this book is that we all have perfect DNA from our ancestors from over 30 thousand years. If we eat the way we are meant to eat, for the most part, our bodies will take care of themselves and we may even possibly avoid many illnesses.

In this book, Doctor Berry covers several lies that have been told to us in a very honest way. It is mind-boggling to me that many of these lies have absolutely no research or medical facts behind them. It is just simply lies that keep getting past on.

For example, one of the biggest lies that we have been taught is that Milk is good for you. You’ve heard the commercials. “Milk, it does the body good”. No. It doesn’t milk is horrible for adults. And also we think we are doing a good thing for our bones by drinking milk. Again not true. Vitamin D comes from the sun. The sun is good for you. It is healing.

These lies really opened up my mind to the fact that many of our beliefs and the beliefs of doctors offer no real proof or evidence. And many of the lies were created by the food industry. We hear commercials so many times over the years that we actually start to believe them.

The entire point of this book is to empower readers to be in charge of their own health. It is sad that many people simply listen to their doctors and pop pills. Taking medications may not always be the best solution. Sometimes turning an illness around is a simple as changing your diet.

In this book, Dr. Berry empowers readers to take charge of their own health and do the research. Everyone is encouraged to Google each topic. Also, he shares a link where you can dig deep and get some real facts about any topic. And at the end of each chapter, you are given some books that go deeper into each topic.

If you have any sort of health issue, you really owe it to yourself to be a critical thinker and do some of your own research on your health issue and the cause. A great place to start is with this book.

When using these drops, a little goes a long way. You will only need a few drops. And if you really want a special treat, try adding a few drops to sparkling water. It almost tastes like sprite except you don’t get all of the chemicals. This is a great option if your kids like sodas. They will be happy and you will appreciate the fact that you are helping them to be healthy.

I also like to add Sweet Drops to my hot beverages as well. The caramels drops taste great in a cup of hot vanilla tea or sometimes I’ll add the coconut or chocolate flavored drops to my morning bulletproof coffee. Sometimes the extra little kick is nice.
